How to Turn Off Mouse Acceleration in Windows 11

Mouse acceleration (called Enhance pointer precision in Windows) changes how far your cursor moves based on how fast you move your mouse.

If you move the mouse slowly, the cursor moves a short distance.
If you move it quickly, the cursor moves farther.

Many users — especially gamers — prefer to disable this for consistent, predictable movement.

What Happens When You Turn It Off?

With mouse acceleration disabled:

  • Cursor movement becomes 1:1
  • Fast and slow movements behave consistently
  • Muscle memory improves (important for gaming)
  • Precision increases for design work

How to Turn Off Mouse Acceleration

Method 1: Using Settings

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  2. Click Bluetooth & devices.
  3. Select Mouse.
  4. Click Additional mouse settings.

A new window will open.

  1. Go to the Pointer Options tab.
  2. Uncheck Enhance pointer precision.
  3. Click Apply, then OK.

Mouse acceleration is now disabled.

Recommended Pointer Speed Setting

For best results:

  • Keep the Windows pointer speed slider at 6/11 (the default middle position).

This ensures true 1:1 tracking without scaling issues.

You can check this under:

Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Mouse → Pointer speed

How to Test If It’s Disabled

Move your mouse slowly across the screen.
Then move it quickly over the same distance.

If the cursor travels the same distance both times, acceleration is off.

If it travels farther when moving fast, acceleration is still enabled.

Why Gamers Disable Mouse Acceleration

Mouse acceleration can cause:

  • Inconsistent aim
  • Overcorrection
  • Loss of precision

Competitive players often disable it to build reliable muscle memory.

When You Might Want It Enabled

Some users prefer acceleration for:

  • Small desk space
  • High-resolution monitors
  • General office use

It’s a preference-based setting.

How to Turn It Back On

Repeat the same steps and re-check:

Enhance pointer precision
